Car Transplants is a member of the foremost body for promoting the recycling of vehicle parts
In 1997 Car Transplants was selected and approved to join the Consortium for Automotive Recycling (CARE). This is an initiative from the manufacturers of vehicles sold in the UK, born out of an EEC Directive, which deems to make the manufacturers responsible for the disposal of End of Life Vehicles (ELV).
“CARE” is responsible for collating data from the country’s leading dismantlers as to which models are more frequently appearing at dismantlers, age, materials recovered, etc, and problems encountered.
Representatives from the manufacturers and dismantling companies meet several times a year for presentations of the techniques available, training, recognition of plastics and new materials being used in the construction of cars, and an open forum on how they can help each other recycle more back into the new car production stream.
More and more non–critical components of a new vehicle are being made from recycled materials, these briefly include: sound deadening, insulation, under wing liners and this is where we are looking to expand the scope of this project. Non-automotive applications are also welcome.
By developing these markets we are reducing the amount of waste going to landfill, a benefit for everyone.
